Did you know elementary class acts weren’t always featured in the Variety show? Prior to 2017, they weren’t always included, however this year they are keeping that tradition strong as second grade teacher, Misty Tucak and her class will be performing at both shows. Don’t miss their performance this weekend Feb. 6 and 7.

The 2017 Variety Show, Puttinโ on the Ritz, featured an elementary class act in an effort to include younger students in the show. The third-grade classes of Mini Abeysekera and Misty Tucaks combined for one act that appeared both nights.
The class of 2019 put on the Variety Show, with the directors William Khabbaz, Gabriella Ispaso, Alex Hanan, Cate Alvaro and Sarah Harding. This was one of the biggest fundraiser for the class and occurred both Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4. About 30 acts performed each night.
The elementary act was a recreation of a scene from the Little Mermaid, and was a black light number. All the supplies for the act were already made because this act was done by the faculty in prior years, which influenced Tucak’s decision to do this number.
In the past, elementary classes did have class acts, but over the years that tradition had faded and only high school classes have had acts performed in the Variety Show. This years directors wanted to bring back the tradition of elementary class acts.
The Variety Show tries to balance high school, middle school and elementary participation to equally show the talents of the whole school. The implementation of these elementary acts will add more elementary students to the show and connect Pine View as a whole.
โWe wanted to give elementary kids a chance to be in the Variety Show who were too shy for single and small group acts,โ Cate Alvaro, technical director of the Variety Show, said. โI would like to see it become a tradition, like the high schoolers.โ
โI think group acts are always great additions,โ Tucak said. โIt allows more kids to be involved.โ
