Pine View Spirit Week was only introduced about a decade ago. This story looks back at Pine View’s first ever High School Spirit Week, how it started, the traditions that were introduced, and the events that brought students together during the 2015 celebration. Some things have changed since then, but the school spirit definitely hasn’t.

The week after Presidents’ Day, Feb. 17-20, Pine View had its first high school Spirit Week for all high school students. Each day of the week provided a different opportunity for students to dress up and participate in games to collect points for their class which went toward the annual dodge ball game on Friday.
The idea for Spirit Week came from physical education teacher, Mark Thorpe. His high school used to participate in a spirit week before homecoming. All the ideas in Pine View’s Spirit Week originated from Thorpe’s high school.
For students who dress up, points were collected for their class by receiving a slip from their third-period teacher that they could then turn in to the office. Classes can also received points for the dodgeball game by participating in the games. Each event could earn a class up to four points.
Thorpe hopes that Spirit Week will bring the school community together and “give them something else to do during school.” Thorpe said, “For me, this is an opportunity for people to get involved.”
The following was the schedule for Spirit Week
